Ernie Green is one of the Little Rock Nine, a group of African-American students who, in 1957, were the first black students to integrate Little Rock Central High School. After receiving two degrees from Michigan State University, Green went on to serve as Director of the A. Phillip Randolph Education Fund, as Assistant Secretary of Labor for President Jimmy Carter, and as a Board member for the NAACP. President Bill Clinton awarded him the Congressional Gold Medal in 1999.
He remains an active member of Metropolitan AME church.
