We are pleased to honor Fr. John Crossin, OSFS as the recipient of the Consortium Ecumenism Award for 2021. He will receive the award and deliver the Figel Lecture on:

Ecumenism:  Are We Moving Toward Full Communion?

The Student Board of the Consortium will launch the evening with a Prayer Service for Christian Unity.  After the award presentation and Fr. Crossin’s address, there will be ample time for Q & A and discussion with participants.

Fr. Crossin is a lifelong ecumenist, a moral theologian, and a dedicated servant of the whole Church. He bridges the worlds of academics, pastoral work, and ecumenical engagement, including serving as recent Director of the Secretariat of Ecumenism and Interreligious Affairs of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. As former Executive Director of the Washington Theological Consortium, he will bring a vision about the state and future of Ecumenism that will challenge us directly in Theological Education and public outreach.

Biography of Fr. John Crossin, OSFS

Fr. Crossin is a moral theologian and ecumenical scholar from the Oblates of St. Francis DeSales. He has a long career in ecumenism and interreligious dialogue, having served as the Executive Director of the Secretariat for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, where he staffed numerous bi-lateral and interfaith dialogues and developed new resources for ecumenical and interfaith education. As Executive Director of the Washington Theological Consortium, he worked with Catholic, mainline Protestant, Evangelical, and Historic Black Divinity schools, and he brought in the first Islamic Studies school in the U.S. He also served as a visiting fellow with the Woodstock Theological Center at Georgetown University, and he taught in numerous schools in the Consortium, including Wesley Theological Seminary, the Catholic University of America, Virginia Theological Seminary and Gettysburg Lutheran Theological Seminary. He also taught and served as Academic Dean and President of the DeSales School of Theology in Washington, D.C. His has served as past President of the North American Academy of Ecumenists, Consultor to the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity 2014-2020, and is a member of the Pontifical Council’s team for the Joint Working Group with the World Council of Churches. Board of Directors/Assembly member, InterFaith Conference of Metropolitan Washington. Fr. Crossin has written several books, including Everyday Virtues (Paulist Press), and numerous articles on moral theology and ecumenism. Currently, is working on a book on Ecumenical Ethics.
